The Many Benefits of Training in the Art & Science of Hypnosis at a State Licensed School

Searching for a school to become certified as a hypnosis professional can be confusing.  It is easy to be led down the wrong path when reading exaggerated or untrue claims made by individuals claiming to operated "schools".  It isn't a legal school until the Department of Education licenses it as such.
As of this writing there is only one school licensed to teach hypnotism in New York State, the New York Hypnosis Training Center, which is located in Holbrook.  The NYS Education Department (BPSS) can easily confirm our claim.
The most important benefits of training a licensed school are:

1.     State licensed directors and instructors
2.    State approved curriculum and equipment, eviewed by experts in the field.
3.    Facilities meet state and local building, fire and health codes
4.    Facilities are inspected by State Education officials.
5.    Complaint process gives students access to regulatory agency.
6.    Students' tuition is protected by a State controlled Tuition Reimbursement Account.
7.    Approved requirements for admission.
8.    Catalogs and Enrollment Agreements must meet state standards.
10.  Refund policies are determined by state regulations.
11.  Employers recognize licensed schools as quality institutions.
12. Licensed schools meet or exceed the standards required by Article 101 of the NYS Education Law and Part 126 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.

Additionally, live demonstrations and supervised practice with spontaneous critiques are essential to training which is intended to lead to effective, successful practice of hypnosis. Correspondence courses are limited in their potential to train a person in the science and art of motivational hypnotism. Research carefully before signing up for correspondence courses or distance learning for training in hypnosis.

Have you ever thought of using hypnosis to enhance your athletic performance?

- Peak athletic performance is inhibited by stress and distraction but with hypnotism, blocks that have inhibited your personal best can be released. You have the ability to excel in your sport with focus and passion, while in a relaxed state.

- Your subconscious mind is like an amazing computer that directs every behavior and bodily function. You can train (program) your mind and body to play your perfect game. The subconscious mind doesn't distinguish between reality and imagination. So the visualization instantly transmits electrical/ chemical messages throughout your body in accordance with its perceived reality. It automatically accepts the imagery as real and duplicates muscle and nerve activity, improving performance automatically. So it's not all in your mind, hypnotic imagery results in physical change. Hypnosis works!

FOR THE LOVE OF MOTIVATING AND TAPPING THE POTENTIAL OF ALL STUDENTS

Most of my teaching experience took place before I founded the NY Hypnosis Training Center.  For ten years, I was a board certified   instructor for the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH).  Over the course of ten years I taught hundreds and hundreds of students the NGH Hypnotism Certification Course.

My students range in age from 23 to 70.  Typically they range in age from 35 to 55 years old.  For the most part, mature students who have decided to learn the art and science of hypnotism for the purpose of helping others tend to be highly motivated, intelligent and focused.  Some have chosen a new career path in the field of hypnosis.  Some are adding the skill of hypnotherapy to broaden their existing scope of therapeutic services.

“Really great people make you feel that you, too, can become great_.

-  Mark Twain

Regardless of the fact that most of my students are motivated, intelligent and focused, occasionally even the talented individual may lack the confidence necessary to demonstrate their true potential in class.  These students experience profound benefit from learning techniques that develop motivation and apply them to themselves the various techniques and hypnotic exercises they learn to utilize with and teach to their clients.

The class learns that hypnotists help their clients inculcate positive thinking and the capacity for self-hypnosis wherein we coach or guide to motivate individuals to achieve their goals.

Throughout the course of study, students are taught theory, observe the demonstration of each technique, and then they form pairs for practice sessions. In addition this process encourages the spirit of mentoring and the importance of confidentiality.

"Whether You Think You Can or Can't, You're Right"

Henry Ford

All students learn basic assessment and goal setting tools to facilitate their clients’ objectives.  As part of the learning process, they apply these to their own issues. As they learn how to help others, they receive therapeutic value from exploring the following:

  • The situation or problem to be assessed.
  • Behavior – (What are they currently doing regarding the situation?)
  • Affect- (What are their emotions related to their behavior?)
  • Sensations – (What are the physical symptoms related to their behavior?)
  • Imagery – (How do I imagine myself related to my behavior?)\
  • Cognition – (What are my thoughts related to my behavior?)

Students then learn a goal setting exercise.  They are asked to apply this goal setting process to the situation or problem which they have assessed. In this process, the following questions must be thoughtfully answered:

  • Goal: (What do I want to achieve? By when should I achieve my goal?)
  • Benefits: (What benefits will I derive from achieving my goal?)
  • Thinking:  (What must I be thinking to achieve my goal?)
  • Feeling: (What must I be feeling to achieve my goal?)
  • Action: (What specifics steps and by what deadline must I achieve my goal?)

The course of study also includes a lesson on the enhancement or restoration of self confidence and self esteem with hypnosis.

Students must learn and experience these techniques as well.  Additionally, one of the texts all students must read , “Motivational Hypnotism” by Fiona Biddle and Shaun Brookhouse, is another brilliant tool to motivate clients and/or students to reach their true potentials.  The self help value of the book always benefits the student.

Because my classes are always small, I am able to continually assess and  encourage all students to reach their personal best, including those students who are obviously talented but lagging behind.

The Fun of Learning About Hypnosis Never Ends

I spent a long and fun-filled weekend from 8/6 to 8/9 both teaching and learning at the National Guild of Hypnotists Educational Convention which was held in Marlboro, Massachusetts.

In the world of conventions, you'd be hard pressed to find so vast a collection of brilliant and generous minds willing to share what they know about hypnosis, the applications and techniques for change, growth and healing as well as Internet marketing.  I am proud to be one of the NGH faculty members as well as one of it's hungry for knowledge attendees.

It's a great pleasure for me to catch up with NYHTC alumni at the convention.  They are a source of great pride to me.

Some great photos are on the way!
